Shanti McIvor holds son Sai-Isa in the Baba Sling

HUNCHY woman Shanti McIvor has developed a unique baby and toddler sling that has received acclaim by infancy educators and other professionals in Australia and overseas.

Her ‘Baba Sling’ addresses many of the issues of babycarrying such as safety, comfort for both baby and wearer, flexibility and a number of wearing positions.

Shanti says that the advantages of baby slings are enormous for both mother and baby and have been widely acknowledged by medical professionals, educators and mothers alike.

"Many traditional cultures knew that with both hands free for other activities, a parent can carry baby around longer, promoting deeper bonding. It also allows a parent to attend to other siblings, which modifies sibling rivalry," she said.

"University research shows that the type of sling I have developed shows reduced colic, better circulation, muscle tone, respiration, digestion and sleep; better uptake of infant cues by parents; advanced motor development; notable language and environmental assimilation."

The sling Shanti has developed allows wearing in various positions including Hammocked, Breastfeeding/Reclining; Sitting Facing In; Facing Out; On Hip; or On Back.

The Baba Sling is made of 100% cotton and comes in a great range of vibrant coloured fabrics with side padding and wide straps. It can be used from birth to two years old.

Shanti sells her Baba Sling at the Eumundi markets and Brisbane Riverside markets. Anyone interested in finding out more can phone 544429597 or email babaslings@beachaccess.com.au.
